Plain square tiles in a standard type glaze can cost as little as £50 per sq.m or up to £200 per sq.m. and will be hand made specially for you to your specification.

There are three basic types of glaze that are used on the tiles. They can be made in any quantity and any size up to 15cm sq.

Colours can almost always be matched, although some very strong colours: ie bright bluish pink, would be very hard to achieve and would be a lot more expensive. Earth colours are the easiest to make and therefore much cheaper. If you need a colour other than those listed here please send a colour sample for matching. However specialised glaze making will carry an extra charge of £20

Transparent Glazed Tiles

A high shine glaze that allows the colour of the clay body be seen through a glass-like covering.
Oxides can be added to this type of glaze to create most colours except true reds.
Mostly suited to indoor use as crazing is a feature of this glaze. Looks rich and beautiful when used on a white clay body.

These are ready mixed glaze colours held in stock, but other colours can almost always be matched.
If you need a colour that is not here please ask, it may well be that the colour you need is already mixed and therefore an extra payment for specialist glaze mixing wouldn't need to be charged.

Opaque Glazed Tiles

Opaque glazed tile

Opaque glazes are less shiny than the transparent glazes, and give a rich even finish.
This type of glaze can be adapted to suit all clay bodies for both indoor and outdoor locations.

Mottled or two colour glazes

This type of glaze will give an interesting variation of colour on a single tile. The combinations of colour and degree of contrast is almost endless. This is a type of glaze that may not always be suitable for outdoor locations, although the majority can be adapted to withstand both high and low temperatures without crazing and cracking.

Because of the varied nature of this type of glaze, these can only be ordered by email stating the colour combinations you would like. Several examples are illustrated here to give an idea of the possibilities and effects that can be achieved.

It is always very difficult to make hand rolled tiles above 15cm sufficiently flat for domestic use, but with extreme care sizes above this can be made successfully, however wastage and the cost of production makes large tiles uneconomic to produce in quantity.
